What is better: a kitten, a retired adult or maybe a rescue?
In all cases you will find yourself with a lovely
devon rex who needs care and love !
So, what about a kitten?
A devon kitten is of couse the cutest thing of the world !
Seeing a devon kitten grow up with you is a great experience and
will let you
TRY to modify some behavioural trait you would like in your kitten,
such as,"No, you don't need to be on the table.
I am rather skeptical about being able to teach
anything to a Devon as that
would require that they actually LISTEN to you; something that
rarely
happens. They do try to please you but on their own schedule.
Most people buy a kitten simply to enjoy its babyhood with all
of the special moments that life stage can bring. But don't overlook
the potential problems of living with a young kitten. A devon
kitten is VERY active, always running like crazy throughout the
home and requiring a lot of extra attention.
What about a retired adult?
Frequently a breeder needs to retire and place an adult devon
rex in a pet home.Breeders must limit the number of cats, keeping
only those offering the best genes for their breeding program. These
devons have lived in a good home where they were loved and cuddled.
They have had a few litters and deserve a good home where to live
forever as beloved pets.So anyone adopting an adult should be
prepared to accept it just as it is. Adult Devons will quickly
switch their love and allegiance to their new owner and will,
given much love, give much love and loyalty in return.
It's always good to talk about the temperament
and any special quirks of any adult you may be considering to
know very well the temperament of the adult you are going to take,
just to be sure you will love him/her as he/she is :-)
And a rescue?
Adopting a rescue means you must be prepared to give a good home
and much love to a cat who really needs it. It also means you
must be aware of the difficult life the cat may have had. A rescue
probably will come to you with a difficult, even painful background.
Depending on the cat, you may need a great deal of patience and
love to overcome the cat's insecurities. But when that happens,
you will find a forever friend.
