Where can I buy my devon rex?
If you choosed to buy a devon rex kitten:
When you are buying a kitten some places are better than others.
A pet store is maybe the worst place where you can go to buy a
kitten. You will have no health guarantee and you will have no
knowledge of the kitten's background, the health of its parents
or the manner in which it was raised. You really won't know anything
about the kitten and you will probably pay a lot for him.
This is the quickest way to find a kitten, but
certainly not the best way! The best way to buy a Devon is to
buy it from a responsible breeder... but not a backyard breeder.
So what is the difference between reponsible and backyard breeders?
A responsible breeder will usually raise healthy kittens
in a clean
and loving enviroment with all the proper care a kitten needs.
She will also be a breeder who is active in the devon rex community
and showhall.A responsible breeder will show you how the kitten
lived before leaving andhas been raised, will show you the mother
(and father if possible).A responsible breeder will guarantee
the kitten health and sell him to you with a written health certification
done by a vet. A responsible breeder will keep in touch with you,
answer to all your questions and always be available for any problem
you may have in the future.
A responsible breeder will sell you an already
altered pet or sell you a kitten with a spay/neuter cotract. To
have a kitten from a responsible breeder you will have to answer
a good number of questions because the breeder will want to be
sure you will provide the kitten a good home ! And you will probably
have to wait for your kitten and stay on a waiting list for some
time. But you will be surely satisfied with the result.
A backyard breeder is often a breeder
who raises kittens only for money. These breeders often have too
high a number of cats. These breeders may have too many cats in
overcrowded conditions. To spare money the kitten will have little
or no vet assistance. The shots (if done) will be done by the
breeder and the kitten will probably not have seen a vet before
being sold to you. They will not be fed and cared for in the proper
way, and this is the reason you may find their price to be cheaper
(but you may end up paying much more after the sale). If the enviroment
where the cats live is unhealthy and not clean you will probably
be asked to pick up the kitten someplace other than the breeder's
home.
Of course the choice is yours, but I think that
in order to have a healthy, happy and well cared for Devon kitten
the best choice is to locate a responsible breeder.
If you decide to buy a devon rex adult, the only
place to find one is from a devon rex breeder !
